PICTO is the first wristwatch that shows time as a pictogram, an icon of time on the move to eternity.

The year is 1984. Steen Georg Christensen, who has just has taken over his father’s watch factory, is with his business part- ner Erling Andersen.

Although the factory Georg Christensen A/S is busy manufac- turing watches for the biggest danish designers such as Arne Jacobsen, Henning Kobbel and Erik Magnussen, they have a vision to create a watch which only consists of a dial and one hand – the minute hand.

With its clean, minimalist graphic lines, PICTO represents a dis- tinct picture of time in a way that no other watch does.
At the same time, its technical design is unique for a wrist- watch. The hour is indicated by a dot on the rotating dial, while the minutes are indicated by a conventional hand.

PICTO is launched in 1984 and quickly became a sensation on the international design scene:
